Garden owners are always anxious to begin working on their lawn when the grass turns green. If they give their lawn enough love and care and just the right amount of patience, they are going to enjoy having a green lawn for many months to come.
As an example, many gardeners like to put fertilizer on their young blades of grass so that they will grow well and become nourished. Most owners opt for organic fertilizers because it is the recommended practice for most bluegrass and fescue lawns. Organic some only good for the soil, but they’re great for the environment too.
Most generally the fall is the proper time to apply organic fertilizer to your lawn. They do this because the roots have to sustain the plants all through the winter until next summer. You can still put the fertilizer on in the spring though if you miss it in the fall. The amount of nutrients in the organic fertilizer must be a half pound of nitrogen for every 1000 sq. ft.
Another organic lawn care product that can be used is lime. This is often applied during early spring after the soil tests. A number of lawn grasses achieve their finest growth whenever the soil’s pH is 6.0 to 7.0. A garden owner should have their soil analyzed approximately every 2 to 3 years. These tests will tell you how much lime you need to put on your lawn.
If you wish to hold and control the growth of crabgrass, then you are going to want to use pre-emergent organic herbicides between the months of March and April. Crabgrass emerges once in a while and the organic herbicides can be used to control its growth. If your crabgrass has already started growing though however it won’t affect it. The best time to apply these herbicides on the crabgrass because of this, is when it is just sprouting.
Spraying fertilizer is mostly done during the fall. Many people like to spray their weed killer during this time as well. Just make sure that the weeds are growing. During the dry season, spray your weeds when they are growing.
Use different sprayers when applying herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides. Mark these sprayers correctly so you know exactly what the containers are for. Just a simple mistake of mixing any one of the lawn care products with another one can end up hurting your plants permanently.
March may be early for insect control but you must always care for your lawn during early spring. If you missed feeding it during the fall, then you can compensate for it during this season.
